How to Build A Positive Body Image

Do you have a positive body image? Do you like what you see when you look in the mirror?

If you catch sight of yourself in a shop window, do you think you look good? No?

Don’t worry, you are certainly not alone.

It can be so hard for us to attain a positive body image, especially when the media constantly parade images of super skinny models and airbrushed photos of the latest celebrities.

We are being bombarded by ideals which we can’t possibly hope to achieve.

Even the rich and famous aren’t immune- the celebrity gossip magazines are full of stories of celebrities who fail to maintain unnaturally thin figures.

When your body image is poor, you are likely to have a distorted view of how you actually look.

What you perceive as your imperfections will be magnified in your own eyes, and you will have trouble believing those who tell you otherwise.

I have a friend who constantly moans about her ‘flabby’ belly when she wears size 8 clothes, and another who is convinced she is ugly- even though she is always the one turning the heads of male admirers when we go out.

So if you look in the mirror and see a huge behind and rolls of flab, you may not be looking at what’s actually there!

A poor body image can be very damaging.

It can be one of the main causes of low self esteem and insecurity, and in the worst cases can lead to eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

If we want to achieve overall happiness and well being, we must first develop a positive body image.

It can be difficult to start to like the way you look after years or even a lifetime of hating your own body.

First of all, stop comparing yourself to everybody else.

We are all individuals with unique body shapes.

Recognize that the glossy, airbrushed photos we see in the magazines don’t actually represent real people; just idealistic images which even the celebrities can’t match up to.

Celebrate your body- make a point of treating yourself to facials, manicures or massages, and choose clothes to flatter rather than hide your shape.

Eat a healthy diet and take regular exercise, as this will nourish your body from within and help to tone up areas you’re really not happy with.

Try not to become too obsessed with this; simply eating more healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables, and exercising 20 minutes for three times per week will give you great results.

Drink eight glasses of water a day- most of us don’t drink enough, and adequate fluid intake will give us a clear complexion, radiant skin and shiny hair.

Listen to others- if they say you look good, believe them! Accept compliments gracefully, and resist the temptation to put yourself down.

Walk tall, straighten your back and lift your head high- you will feel much better than if you slouch along hunched over and looking at the floor.

Smile often; you will not only look good on the outside but will also feel so much better on the inside.

Practice these tips every day and you should soon achieve a positive body image and feel so much better about yourself as a result.

You are a life Saver!!

I recently discovered this site and I can tell you that my life has not been the same. I now come here EVERYDAY and spend at least 1 hour.

I used to spend that time browsing online fashion and beauty magazine which just means that I spend more. Now I have replaced that habit with coming here.

In future I will think about contributing articles as well. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! and God bless"
